Self esteem means how we value and perceive ourselves. According to self-esteem expert Morris Rosenberg, self-esteem is quite simply one’s attitude toward oneself (1965). He described it as a “favourable or unfavourable attitude toward the self”. Here we will talk about the causes of low self esteem and also about the 10 ways to improve your self esteem and how it helped me.
There can be many factors that can cause low self esteem, some of them are:
- Being bullied or abused in childhood
- Comparing yourself with others
- Blaming yourself
- Hating yourself for not achieving what you wanted
- Ongoing stress
- Physical health problems
- Mental health problems
- Relationship problems
- Carrier failure
I would like to share my experience about how I suffered from low self esteem for certain period of my life. After finishing my studies and not being happy about how my career looked like few years back, I had an issue of low self esteem. I compared myself with my other friends and family. Seeing them successful in their career I blamed myself for not performing well and not achieving my dream.
But things changed, I decided not to be discouraged and started working on myself. As I started writing in my blog, it gave me confidence and helped me improve my self esteem.
